Welcome to Penang State Sports Council official website!

This year will mark a change for the better in the development of sports by reaching out to the grass roots and reviving Penang as the “Power House” in sports through strategic planning and re-branding efforts.

The Penang State Sports Council will be focusing its efforts in developing sports at district level including widening its pool of sports talents and develop more “pelapis” and state athletes. In addition, the Penang Sports Council will also identify the various facilities available or needed and engage two sports coach in each of the five districts to develop high performance sports in Penang. I believe that Penang will once again rise to regain its status as a “power house” in the arena of high performance sports.

In addition, the Penang Sports Council will be organising 48 participative sports event with the theme “Be Amazed” this year. Among the events include the Combat Sports Festival (FESKOM) which will be held from 1 to 31 December at the Penang Pesta Site in conjunction with the annual Pesta Pulau Pinang.

Congratulations also to shuttler Dato’ Lee Chong Wei and Squash Queen Dato’ Nicol Ann David, both the ranking World No 1 in their respective fields. Born and bred in Penang, they have once again made Penang and the country proud with their recent achievements among many others.

Dato’ Lee Chong Wei recently won the coveted All-England Championship 100th Edition while Dato’ Nicol David was crowned the champion of the CIMB Kuala Lumpur Open 2010. Through much hard work, time and dedication and also gifted talent in their respective sports event, their achievements thus far, has proven that “if there’s a will, there’s always a way”.

The path for the Penang State Sports Council has been paved and with the support all quarters, including YOU, together we take our first step on a journey to bring out the best in Penang in the field of sports.
